Bringing Communities Together

Israac is a Sheffield-based Charity offering an inclusive and warm welcome to the Sheffield Somali community and embracing all communities in the local area.

‘Israac’ means ‘Unity’ in Somali.

Welcome to ISRAAC Somali Community Association, a vibrant, inclusive hub in the heart of Sheffield. Founded in the early 1980s, ISRAAC has grown into a trusted community centre that celebrates culture, supports wellbeing, and strengthens connections across generations. We provide a safe space where people from all backgrounds can come together to learn, share, and thrive, continuing a legacy built on unity, resilience, and community spirit. Though most Somali’s are Muslims, we welcome many other faiths.

Our community space

Israac members purchased our vestry hall complex as a community asset in 2017. We host a restaurant run by a professional chef with delicious, healthy, good value meals and snacks. We have community spaces available both for our community activities and events and for hire for community purposes. We’re proud of our Diaspora Multimedia Hub & studio (DMH) in partnership with Eryal TV and Sheffield Hallam University which runs film courses for young people and produces videos.

Hire a meeting room or event space

We have a variety of excellent spaces available to the community: for big events, smaller one-off or regular meetings, and current availability of some office space. We are particularly proud of our main hall which is 147.5m2, with a 7+metre high ceiling and well ventilated so excellent for social distancing. But we have some welcoming meeting spaces too. We value the wide range of our guests and visitors and will try to accommodate your requirements.
